Special Rules and Wargear

Legiones Cataegis Special Rule

The Legiones Cataegis were warriors of unbridled fury, as fearless in the face of the enemy as they were brutal in an assault. While this meant that their mere charge could shake enemy lines to the core, it also made them unpredictable and at times impossible to control.

All models and units with the Legiones Cataegis special rule are subject to the following two provisions:

Elemental Violence

Whenever a model with the Legiones Cataegis special rule either fails a leadership test, or is the target of a successfully manifested psychic power from the Telepathy discipline, roll a d6.

On a 4+, the unit gains the Fearless special rule, and the triggering event is ignored. If the event was a failed Leadership test,  the unit now counts as having passed that test; if the trigger was a successfully manifested Telepathy power, it has no effect.

However, a unit thus affected no longer counts as scoring for the remainder of the game. Units with the Legiones Cataegis rule which did not count as scoring prior to this effect instead lose the ability to deny objectives for the remainder of the game. In either case, place a marker next to the affected unit in order to indicate this.

Unstable Genecraft

At the beginning of every turn, roll 2d6 and subtract the turn number. If the result is 0 or less, randomly choose a third of your units with this special rule (rounded down). Remove d3 non-character models from these units, with no saves of any kind allowed. While independent characters may not be removed through this special rule, they count towards your total number of units when determining how many units take losses.

Wargear

Carapace Armour

At the beginning of the great crusade, supply of armour and equipment for the Legiones Cataegis was sparse. As such, they often fought in crudely assembled plate of leather and steel, which provided less protection than later patterns of armour. Carapace Armour provides a 4+ armour save

Proto Power Armour

In the later stages of the Unification Wars, the crude armour of the Cataegis was gradually replaced with the more sophisticated and newly developed power armour. While not as sophisticated as later patterns, the protection is provided was nonetheless considerable. Proto Power Armour provides a 3+ armour save

Proto Terminator Armour

In situations where the typical Cataegis power armour was insufficient, special troops in an armour cloaked in primitive protective fields were deployed. This pattern of armoured would later be developed by the priests of Mars into terminator armour. Proto Terminator Armour provides a 2+ armour save and the Relentless and Bulky special rules.

Heavy Proto Terminator Armour

While the protection of the various patterns of Cataegis armour patterns was already considerable, the Unification Wars often featured battles where protection was more valuable than mobility. For these situations, the already considerably armoured patterns of Proto Terminator Armour were wrapped in thick layers of steel and ceramite. Heavy Proto Terminator armour proves a 2+ armour save, 5+ invulnerable save, the Slow and Purposeful and Very Bulky special rules, and subtracts 1” from all movement and charge distances

Cataegis Bike

Based on the reliable and commonly used bikes that had been a hallmark of Terran transportation for millenia, the Cataegis Bikes were used not only to get troops to combat quickly, but also to allow them more mobility on the battlefield. A Cataegis bike grants its user +1 toughness and the Engine Overcharge special rule

Tonitrus Pattern Jetbike

The Tonitrus Pattern Jetbike was an early development in jetbike technology, utilising large engines to support the primitive anti-grav technology. While the technology was unreliable and needed regular maintenance, the engines of the jetbike could be overcharged for a brief time to grant extra impact to a charge. A Tonitrus Pattern Jetbike grants its user +1 Toughness and improves his armour save to 2+ if it is worse than this. It also confers the Engine Overcharge special rule

Engine Overcharge

A bike or jetbike with this special rule may choose to overcharge its turbine in the assault phase. The unit gains the rage special rule for the assault phase, but must take an immediate dangerous terrain test.
