Dev diary Entry 001: Rules progress, Battlescribe, playtesting and more!
Hi guys,
Well, the initial interest from the first Unification Wars video has been quite high with some extremely enthusiastic comments from people. So much so we thought it only fair to give you all an update on the development of the project!
This marks the beginning of a series of diary entries, focusing on what the team have been developing and what is in the pipeline. We have some exciting progress to share with you all, keeping you appraised as we take this journey together.
So, what have we been working on?
Battlescribe
After the initial launch video last week the development team have been hard at work tidying up some extra units and converting them into a format that can be used in BattleScribe. For those that don't know what BattleScribe is - it is a fast and powerful army list creator for tabletop wargamers. In our case, the team want to provide you with an easy to use TRFT Legio Cataegis Army list so you can get a contingent of Thunder Warriors out onto the table as fast as possible and get playtesting the rules.
It's not a simple process but we have made some great progress on the initial units, so once we have a first stable version available - there will be an update dedicated to this. Keep an eye out for this!
The Technobarbarians are stirring...
Although our first mission was to get you a set of rules for the Legio Cataegis first and foremost, what would a bunch of Thunder Warriors be useful for if they don't have enemies to "unify" for the Emperor?
Enter the Techno-barbarian Clans!
Rules are well underway for an initial army list. As there are an incredible variety of possible units with regional cultures listed, our first priority is to provide a core set of units that can be used across most clans that mimic the majority of common conscripts or general technology referenced in known sources.
From there we will be adding in more units, with our focus being on the empires that are most referenced in canon and the team will then 'enhance' where it adds character, flavour and meaning to balance out the army lists. Our focus for this stage will be on the clans of Old Albia, Kingdom of Ursh, The Terrawatt Clans and the Yndonesic Bloc.
Our focus on new units will be inspired by the sources that inspired the original Games Workshop team when they were creating Rogue Trader. Movies such as Fist of the North Star, Mad Max and Heavy Metal or comics such as 2000AD.
Lots of fun to be had with this, so watch this space.
Cataegis printing progress
We assume you have watched the video expertly presented last week from Enrique on TRFT, if you haven't - then go check it out! Why? Because it's full of awesomely printed Legio Cataegis inspired tanks, Cataegis troops and Jetbikes!
They are now in the very capable hands of the paint team so the next time you see them they will have a fresh coat of paint and be wearing their bronze armour and plumes with pride.
And finally...
As the rules are now starting to take shape and are public, we want to hear from you regarding the rules. Are they unbalanced? Do things need to change? Are they awesome?
We appreciate that you are coming along for this journey and want to know your thoughts and feedback along the way. We will be setting up a feedback form over the coming weeks ready for you to send your comments to the team, it is greatly appreciated!
That's all from us at present - in the meantime, enjoy the current rules, get 3D printing some units and have some fun.
-Paul
